In a rollercoaster afternoon of WSL action, the Londoners edged a seven-goal thriller to win 4-3 and inflict a first loss of the season at the Joie Stadium on Gareth Taylor’s side.
Quickfire goals from Mariona Caldentey and Lotte Wubben-Moy gave the Gunners an early lead, but Mary Fowler reduced the deficit with a fine header from an exceptional Aoba Fujino cross from the right.
The Blues then carried our momentum into the second half and equalised soon after the interval when Vivianne Miedema collected the ball inside the box and coolly slotted into the bottom corner.
But Arsenal then delivered a sucker-punch almost immediately when Frida Maanum restored the visitors’ lead by drilling past Khiara Keating.
We again responded strongly and pushed forward to win a penalty when Fujino was brought down inside the box, with Fowler expertly dispatching from 12 yards for our 500th WSL goal.
But with the game finely balanced approaching the final 10 minutes, it was the visitors who snatched the three points when Beth Mead’s cross was tucked home by Stina Blackstenius.
