Kerstin Casparij says it was imperative for City to sign off from 2024/25 with a win following our entertaining 5-2 triumph over Crystal Palace.

Having trailed 2-1 at half-time to the relegated Eagles, Nick Cushing’s side produced a superb display after the interval to flip the match on its head.

Second-half goals from Jill Roord, Rebecca Knaak (two) and Kerolin Nicoli – who also grabbed her second – ensured we closed the campaign with three points as we finished fourth in the division.

Amid ongoing injury issues which saw the Blues without key players across the season, it perhaps wasn’t the outcome to the term we were aiming for at the start of 2024/25.

A constant throughout, though, was the passionate support from the sky blue faithful up and down the country and on the continent -  and Casparij says she and her team-mates will never take their backing for granted.

“From a group perspective we felt we couldn’t come away with a loss today, we had to win for our fans our ourselves,” she said.

“I think that kind of made sure we had that final push.

“The fans have been so incredible. For us, following us literally everywhere and they’ve been so incredible.

“Even when things where not going the way we wanted, the love and positivity we got from them – we can never repay them for that.”
