Taylor: I am really excited about the future

Gareth Taylor has told media he is delighted with Manchester City's summer signings ahead of the start of the new Barclays Women's Super League season.

Seven players have joined the Club since the end of the 2021/22 campaign, with five players leaving and further three retiring from the game.

The domestic season begins on Sunday, when City travel to Aston Villa to begin the league season a week after our scheduled opener with Arsenal was postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

While the boss accepts it may take some time for his squad to gel as he would like, he believes the new, younger crop of players could have a long and prosperous future together in Manchester.

"We have really invested in the future with these players," he said.

"Naturally there was going to be a fair size turnover at some point. They gave good service and three have retired.

"Ellen [White, retiring] and Keira [Walsh, leaving for Barcelona] took us on the back foot but Keira gave eight years. It’s worth looking at why these players have been picked up. We received a record fee so it shows we are doing something right as a club.

"We have to be on the front foot with recruitment. We’re on the case and trying to be the best version of ourselves. These players are top players to complement our calibre. I am really excited about the future. Regardless of the first few games, it won’t change my view on what this team is capable of."
