Aemu Oyama says seeing other young players excel at City motivates her to become an important figure at the Joie Stadium.

The 20-year-old has become our second January addition, penning a two-and-a-half-year deal which will keep her at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2027

She arrives at the Club with an exciting reputation having played at various youth levels for her nation after helping the Under-16s to the AFC U16 Women’s Championship in 2019 and successive U20 Women’s World Cup finals.

Oyama also becomes the latest member of our Japanese contingent, joining Yui Hasegawa, Aoba Fujino, Ayaka Yamashita and Risa Shimizu in representing the Blues.

For our new No.30, having familiar faces at the Club will help her settle and produce enjoyable football while at City.

“I’m so happy to be playing for such a celebrated team,” she declared.

“I would like to be able to contribute to the team as soon as I can and make everyone smile!

“Now that I’m in this team, I want to play as many games as possible like other players and seeing those young players [in the first-team] inspires me to work hard like them.

“My number one ambition is to be approved by everyone.  To me, enjoying football is most important, so I hope to show that during games.

“This is the first time for me to play overseas, so to have other Japanese team-mates is a pretty big thing for me.

“I think I’ll have many opportunities to play in Yui’s position, so I think our play styles are similar.”
