John Stones has given special mention to substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno after his impressive cameo in the 1-1 Premier League draw against Liverpool.

Stones poked us ahead after 23 minutes, before Liverpool levelled through Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty after Ederson brought down Darwin Nunez inside the box.

The Brazilian goalkeeper tried to continue but picked up a knock whilst committing the foul and was replaced by Ortega Moreno after 56 minutes.

The German pulled off some smart saves, including a crucial block from a goal-bound Nunez effort. Stones was impressed with Ortega Moreno and reserved some praise for him after the game.

“Incredible keeper. Not easy at all to come in at this stage and how he played, the saves that he pulled off, such intelligent saves,” he said.

“A big shoutout to Stefan for coming off the bench at such a difficult place and being ready, which everyone always is.

“Even Kovacic and Jeremy [Doku] who came on gave everything.

“That’s the strength of our team. From back to front, whoever is on the bench, comes on and plays their part.

“That’s why we’ve been so successful over the years.”

The Englishman also spoke about the clever set-piece for his goal, explained why a point is a fair reflection of the game and looked ahead to the remainder of the league campaign.
