Rodrigo scored his first Champions League goal as City earned a 3-0 victory in the quarter-final first leg with Bayern Munich at the Etihad.

The Spaniard opened the scoring with a 25-yard strike, curling a left-footed shot past Yann Sommer in the visitors’ goal.

Bernardo Silva headed a second in the second half before Erling Haaland arrived in the box to tuck home our third.

And speaking after the match, our No.16 praised the team’s display.

He said: “I want to congratulate the team because the effort we showed and the fact we play one of the best teams in Europe and we struggled at times because they’re good also, but I think we understood the game very well.

“It was very special goal for me, I think it gave us the confidence to believe and to keep going.

“But I don’t want to speak about individuals, I want to speak about the team and the roles of everyone, I think it was a collective win today.”

The visitors had won all eight of their Champions League games this season before tonight, and Rodrigo believes that keeping a clean sheet tonight will boost the confidence of City’s defence further.

“Keeping a clean sheet against them is unbelievable,” he said.

“It’s great because they have incredible weapons on the frontline, they have fast players, and it wasn’t easy today because they play with a false nine, it was great defending from all the team.”

Despite the commanding 3-0 advantage we are taking to Munich, Rodrigo wants the team to go again, and try to win the second leg next week.

He said: “This is the Champions League, and we know who we are facing, we know how demanding the game is going to be. I think we have to try to win the game because it’s not done.”
