Ederson a contender to take penalties, reveals Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has revealed that Ederson could be in contention to take penalties for City.

In the immediate aftermath of Ilkay Gundogan’s miss from the spot during our 4-1 win at Liverpool on Sunday, Guardiola suggested our goalkeeper could be the next player asked to take a spot-kick.

The Brazilian shot stopper had impressed many with his footballing skills and howitzer of a kick since moving to City from Benfica in 2017.

And quizzed further on the topic at his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s FA Cup fifth round trip to Swansea, the boss revealed he wasn’t ruling out the option of Ederson being entrusted from the penalty spot.

“He has to save the goals and after that we will see what happens,” Pep revealed.

“Now Aguero is out and Kevin is not here, it is an option. Of course, it is. The penalty talker has to have personality.”
