City are guaranteed second in the Premier League, whilst Norwich’s relegation is already confirmed, so Guardiola took the opportunity to give his squad a chance to rest after a gruelling schedule following football’s restart.
"I gave two days because we had a tight period after lockdown, with games every two or three days," he explained at his pre-match press conference.
"We don't play for anything and neither do Norwich except to respect [the competition].
"If we had played against an opponent who was playing to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League or to avoid relegation, maybe I wouldn’t have given two days.
"After this we are going to prepare for two weeks with a normal day off to prepare for the game [against Real Madrid]."
