In particular, the City boss was keen to sound a special salute to the way our fans who travelled to Spain for our Champions League semi-final second leg with Real Madrid in midweek, had superbly got behind the team despite our heart-breaking defeat.
And, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of our return to Premier League action on Sunday at home to Newcastle, Guardiola said the fans’ support was appreciated by all of the squad.
“I don’t know if we could have better away fans than we have in all the Premier League or than the guys who travelled to Madrid,” the manager asserted.
“Thank you so much - we felt it.
“I remember some comments that 20 years ago we were playing to be not relegated from the third division here in England and 20 years later we are playing in the semi-final of the Champions League.
“I had the feeling they are proud.
“The reaction of our fans in Madrid (after the result) they were OK and this is the biggest compliment we can have.”
