Pep Guardiola insists his players’ sole focus is on facing Burnley, regardless of the outcome of Liverpool’s clash with Watford in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.

City currently sit one point clear of Jurgen Klopp’s side at the top of the table ahead of the latest round of Premier League fixtures.

Should Liverpool get the better of the Hornets in their 12:30 (UK) kick-off at Anfield however, then Guardiola’s men would need a win at Turf Moor to reclaim top spot.

Nonetheless, the City boss insists his players won’t let results elsewhere influence their preparations or performance against the Clarets.

Asked if Liverpool playing before City this weekend could affect the team, Guardiola replied: “Nothing, zero.

“At the end of the weekend we will know the position that we are in but even going in a point in front or backwards we have to do our job. Nothing changes.

“(The focus is on) Burnley. We still have nine games to play, game by game we will see what happens.

“We know what we have to do, win games, that’s all. It’s hard but we are going to try.”
