Pep Guardiola says Manchester City’s record breaking year is a reflection of the players' consistent performances.

A 4-0 victory away to Newcastle United was City’s 34th across 2021 and our 18th on the road in the Premier League, both new English top flight records.

It also ensures that Guardiola’s men will sit top of the table at Christmas after an eighth league triumph in succession.

And while the City boss was proud of the achievement, he insists that they are a perfect demonstration of our impressive displays over the past 12 months.

He said: “A lot of victories means how consistent we’ve been, not just this season but over the last four or five years in winning and winning and winning.

“It’s a record from a long time ago, so it’s not easy to take it, we get it.

“One day it’s going to happen, all the records will be broken but it’s nice, it means how good the guys are doing so far.”
