Phillips is going to help City, says Guardiola

Pep Guardiola says summer signing Kalvin Phillips will play his part in City’s quest for success as the start of the new Premier League season approaches.

The England international, who made the move to City from Leeds United earlier this summer, was an unused substitute during Saturday’s 3-1 Community Shield loss to Liverpool.

Though he only linked up with his new team mates earlier this month, Phillips has already impressed with his attitude, quality and positive personality.

And looking ahead to the start of the new season and beyond, City boss Guardiola declared that he was in no doubt that Phillips is ‘going to help us.’

“He has confidence, he can play, he is ready to play,” the City boss asserted as he addressed the media following the Community Shield clash.

“He arrived just two weeks (ago). We have Rodri, Bernardo, Gundogan and they know [City’s style] - but step by step he will get it.

“He’s an incredibly nice person. The season is long - many games - and he is going to help us.”
