Pep Guardiola praised the impact of Oscar Bobb in the 2-0 victory over Sheffield United – our final game of 2023.

Bobb was introduced early on in the second half as a substitute for Jack Grealish on the left flank.

And the boss was impressed with what he saw from the young wing wonder as City concluded the year with a vital three-point haul.

In fact, Bobb was involved in the all-important second goal, playing in Phil Foden who, in turn, fed Julian Alvarez to finish from close-range.

Guardiola took time in his post-match press conference to hail the wideman’s influence.

“The first half was a little flat, everything was flat. Second half we lifted, especially with Oscar,” said the boss.

“He helped us to increase our rhythm and our movements to the byline.

“He’s really good in small spaces like Phil [Foden], Bernardo [Silva], Rico [Lewis].”

On the switch of Bobb for Grealish, the manager added: “I decided I needed a different speed. It was an incredible effort from Jack. The last two days have been really tough.

“His performance in Goodison Park, he was the best player on the pitch. It’s not been easy for him.

“I was doubting a lot to start Oscar from the beginning - not in Jack’s position but in another position.

“Oscar is an incredible runner, good finisher and assist in small spaces.

“He’s so aggressive without the ball, he won two or three balls and after 2-0 they didn’t press. We decided to do passes to avoid what happened in other games.”
