Guardiola: We know what we have do in Madrid to reach the final

Pep Guardiola says City will seek to raise the level of our performance once again next week in Madrid as we seek to reach a second successive Champions League final.

City secured a 4-3 win over Real Madrid at the Etihad on Tuesday night in what proved an incredible semi-final first leg encounter.

Goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva were countered by a Karim Benzema brace and strike from Vinicius for the visitors

It means City hold a precious one-goal advantage heading to the Spanish capital for next Wednesday's decider.

Looking ahead to the trip to the Bernabeu, City boss Guardiola said his players knew the size of the task awaiting them – but backed us to lift our game to even greater heights as we seek to reach the Paris showpiece.

“We know we have to raise the level or do better to get to the final and we have to convert the chances,” Guardiola declared.

“But we won the game and we know what we have to do to win the game in Spain.

“It’s a good test for us. We have to try and be ourselves

“Football is always the result but we performed exceptionally. Like the way played in the last two games against Brighton and Watford and today - this is what I want. I’m not going to say one word that we deserve more.”
