Pep Guardiola says he has no doubts about City summoning up the ideal response to the disappointment of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final loss when we play host to Brighton on Wednesday.

City return to Premier League action in what is a crucial encounter at the Etihad just four days after losing out 3-2 to Liverpool at Wembley at the weekend.

But asked at his pre-match press conference what he looked for from his players after a setback, the boss was unequivocal in his response.

“Let them remember who we are as a team - this is the key point,” Guardiola insisted.

“I would say here, reaching the FA Cup semi and trying to reach the final, it’s in the past.

“I have the ability to forget immediately after one night the defeats and victories, so quick. Think of the next one so quickly. I am hungry enough.

“And I said to the players we don’t play seven finals (in the league). We play just one. To reach to play the next one until the seventh

“Here they (the players) are exceptional. Fernandinho, the pride with Bernardo in the middle and at 2-0 down how they pressed and how the central defenders were with the risk in behind.

“We played an exceptional team. We lost. Now the next one is Brighton.

“I always have to remember the specific things to get back on track but I know my team and I know when we have a series of games after games, there are moments they are human beings.”
