Guardiola’s side were at their mesmeric best at St James’ Park – especially in a dominant opening 45 minutes.
The challenges continue to come thick and fast for City with our latest assignment Thursday night’s return to Premier League action at home to new champions Liverpool.
But as he looked ahead to the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side – as well as looming key FA Cup and Champions League matches against Arsenal and Real Madrid - Guardiola said the Newcastle performance was the standard he wanted to see his players maintain.
“I like the way we played at Newcastle,” declared the City manager.
“We suffered a lot there in the last few years. We dropped points there losing to a late goal last year and then conceding a late equaliser earlier this season.
“The way we played there is what we have to do.
“The Premier League is important, we play every game first to qualify for the Champions League as still we are not there. It's tough if you don't play how you are.
“Now it's preparing for next season and the best way for the games with Arsenal and Madrid and all the games we have in the Premier League gives us a chance to arrive in the best way.”
