Former City midfielder and Matchday Live guest Izzy Christiansen thinks new signing Omar Marmoush could take the Blues’ attack to a new level.

The Egyptian forward has joined the Club from Eintracht Frankfurt having already grabbed 20 goals and 14 assists so far this season.

A versatile, forward capable of creating and finishing chances in equal measure, Marmoush’s arrival was greeted with plenty of excitement by former City duo Christiansen and David James, who were special guests on a recent Matchday Live broadcast.

“This is one which I think City fans will be really excited about,” Christiansen said.

“He’s a really creative player, can play in the nine or ten position, off [Erling] Haaland or on either wing. He’s another really good option in that front line.

“It will be quite good to see him working off Haaland in and around that area but there are plenty of players who have the ability to play that 10 role.

“It’s just another fantastic option and exactly what Pep needs to freshen up the forward line, and it might even bring out attributes from players already at the Club.

“It’s very exciting for the fans.”

Former City and England goalkeeper James agreed with Christiansen’s analysis, believing Marmoush can be an asset to the Club and – more specifically – Erling Haaland for years to come.

He added: “If [Haaland’s] going to be the benchmark for the next 9.5 years it’s about who you support him with.

“And the signing of a 25-year-old striker to partner him and Phil Foden, there are probably a few clubs in the Premier League and around Europe who are thinking ‘hang on a minute, look what they’re building’.”
