New signing Nico Gonzalez says he can’t wait to start working under and learning from City manager Pep Guardiola.

The Spanish midfielder sealed his move to City from Porto earlier this week, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Nico, who began his career at Barcelona and who has also featured for Valencia, arrives having carved out a reputation for being one of European football’s most exciting and accomplished young midfield talents.

And he says he is eagerly looking forward to now further developing under the tutelage of Guardiola, who became one of world football’s elite midfield operators during his own illustrious playing career.

“Obviously working with Pep will be incredible,” Nico said in his first interview after joining the Club.

“Everyone that I have talked to about him always talks so good and with him I think I can reach my full potential and become the best player I can be.”

The 23-year-old also revealed how excited he was to link up alongside his Etihad new teammates – and how he believes training and playing alongside City’s array of world class talent will also help lift his own game to new levels.

“I really want to play with the best midfielders in the world,” Nico added.

“I think when you play with these types of players, you become much better and enjoy it even more.

“I really want to have the ball to play as much as we can together and hopefully the fans enjoy it.”
