Guardiola: Champions League qualification allows Premier League focus

Pep Guardiola says he is delighted to be through to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League with one Group A game to spare.

And he believes it allows his side to focus on domestic football until the knock-out phase of Europe’s elite competition begins in February.

City’s position at the top of Group A was confirmed after our brilliant win against PSG on Wednesday at the Etihad.

It means our final match of the qualifying campaign will be one without pressure.

And with City out of the Carabao Cup, Guardiola says he is now focused on the Premier League until January, when City’s FA Cup campaign gets under way.

“We are incredibly happy and delighted to be in the last 16 of the Champions League and at this part of the season to be not far from the top of the Premier League,” he says.

“It is difficult to get through the group stage and now it allows us to focus on the Premier League.

“We are out of the Carabao Cup so we focus on the Premier League until January.

“We know what the Premier League means. The four Premier League teams are in the last 16 and did an incredible group stage, all of them.”
