Foden: We’re not about individuals, we’re a team

Phil Foden believes Manchester City are so dangerous because the entire squad is capable of finding the back of the net.

The midfielder chipped in with three assists in our enthralling 5-2 Premier League victory over Southampton, which saw Riyad Mahrez, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan all on the scoresheet.

And for Foden, the team’s focus on the collective rather than on the individual is a major factor in why they are such a threat going forward.

He said: “You’ve probably seen this year it’s always a different scorer so it’s good to be part of a great team and hopefully we can keep winning.

“We’re not about individual players, we’re all about the team and everyone chips in with goals and assists.

After Sunday’s Manchester Derby defeat brought our incredible 28-game unbeaten run to an end, Foden believes getting back to winning ways as soon as possible was a crucial.

While he admitted that the players knew the streak would eventually have to finish, he was delighted with how the team responded to the setback.

“It was always going to come to an end,” Foden said of the winning run.

“But it was all about bouncing back today and showing the courage to play football.

“This is the Premier League, it’s one of the hardest leagues in the world and no matter who the opponent is they make it difficult for you every game.

“You have to stick together and dig deep and in the end in the final third we showed the quality and scored a lot of goals.”
