Guardiola hails stamina of 'huge competitor' Bernardo

Pep Guardiola says the continued tireless displays from Bernardo Silva are a measure of the Portuguese midfielder’s desire for success.

Bernardo has featured in all but six of Manchester City’s 50 games so far this season and has started the last five matches in what has been a gruelling April schedule.

Saturday’s game against Watford will be our fifth in 13 days and the playmaker’s remarkable stamina has been increasingly evident during this particularly busy period in which City have been affected by injuries.

Bernardo, however, has remained fit and available and, whilst Guardiola hails his powers of recovery, he believes his lung-busting displays are a sign of how determined he is to win.

“He has a special recovery,” he said at his press conference ahead of the Watford game.

“The guy in second day is exhausted but the third is fit. He’s so smart and is a huge competitor.

“That’s why when you are a competitor you bring energy when you don’t have it.”
