Manchester City and Special Olympics participants came together for inclusive football sessions during the Club’s pre-season Tour of Asia, celebrating the power of football to bring people together.

As part of Manchester City’s global community initiative, participants from Special Olympics in Hong Kong and Seoul took part in mixed-ability football sessions designed to provide fun, supportive and inclusive environments for everyone involved.

The first session took place in Hong Kong, where participants practised fundamental movements and worked in pairs and small groups to develop their technical abilities, while also strengthening communication, teamwork and leadership skills.

Led by City in the Community coaches, the session focused on technical development and small-sided games, with activities adapted to ensure all participants could develop their skills and enjoy the game together.

City players Rico Lewis and Stephen Mfuni joined the session, taking part in activities alongside participants and helping to create memorable experiences on and off the pitch.

The pair also took part in a Q&A session, sharing insights into their journeys in football, answering questions from participants and highlighting the importance of enjoying the game and supporting one another.

The Club’s engagement with Special Olympics continued in Seoul, where 50 young participants took part in a football session featuring technical practices and adapted games designed to support players of different abilities. Working together in groups, participants developed football skills, built confidence and enjoyed opportunities to learn, play and connect through sport.

Manchester City and Special Olympics have worked together for many years to create more inclusive opportunities through football, with programmes delivered in communities across the world, including Angola, China and the United States. The activities in Hong Kong and Seoul continued that shared commitment to ensuring everyone has the chance to play.

Football has the power to connect people, break down barriers and create a sense of belonging, and the sessions provided participants with the opportunity to learn, play and build new friendships together.
