Guardiola calls for a Newcastle encore

Pep Guardiola has urged City to replicate our impressive recent FA Cup display away at Newcastle when we welcome the Magpies to the Etihad for a key Premier League clash tomorrow night.

City were hugely impressive in securing a 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final triumph at St James’ Park nine days ago – but the boss is also aware that Steve Bruce’s side will prove tough opponents tomorrow.

Newcastle held City to a 2-2 draw in the North East in a league encounter last November and Guardiola expects tomorrow to be another testing examination for his side.

“It (the last league game) was tight. It was tight and difficult, like it always is in the Premier League. At the end we dropped two more points,” Guardiola reflected at his pre-match press conference.

“We didn’t make an incredible performance, but once Kevin (De Bruyne) scored, we should have finished the game but were unable to do it.

“Always they (Newcastle) have weapons. It’s a team with good physicality and hopefully we can do a good game like we did in the FA Cup."
