A Phil Foden strike and Erling Haaland double were enough to secure a seventh Premier League victory from our opening seven matches this season.
Foden - making his first appearance since September’s Manchester derby - handed the Blues an early lead when he met Jérémy Doku’s cutback and fired home through a crowd of Ipswich bodies.
The visitors responded soon after through Daizen Maeda’s smart finish, but City regained our lead before the break when Haaland headed home Mateo Kovačić’s cross after clever work from the Croatian midfielder.
Haaland then extended our advantage with around 20 to play when he raced onto Iliman Ndiaye’s pass in behind and fired into the net.
City had further opportunities to wrap the game up late on, namely when Ndiaye hit the woodwork and Enzo Fernández was denied by Christian Walton one-on-one.
We even had the ball in the net again when Haaland thought he’d completed his hat-trick, only for the offside flag to cut his celebrations short.
There would in fact still be time for one more goal, but it’d fall to the visitors when Zian Flemming converted from the penalty spot to set up a captivating finish at the Etihad Stadium.
But the league leaders held firm and, in grabbing our seventh Premier League win in as many matches this season, also ensured Enzo Maresca broke the competition’s record for the best start to a managerial reign.
