City went behind early on after Noni Madueke capitalised on an Abdukodir Khusanov mistake but fought back to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.
The result means City move up to fourth in the Premier League table - a timely boost ahead of our must-win Champions League game against Club Brugge on Wednesday evening.
After the game, Guardiola discussed his side’s decision to play a more direct style in the second half against Enzo Maresca’s side, with the Catalan singling out Bernardo for special praise.
“Bernardo was unbelievable; he helped us with the process,” Pep said.
“The second half they went man-to-man. So we have to play with Erling because if he wins that ball, we have a chance.
“They played man-to-man and played some balls to Madueke - and when they win [the ball], they have an action for goal.
“The game was up and down. With that we are the worst team. We don’t have the legs. Maybe it is less attractive [playing direct], but we have to make it work for us.
“We created chances. In terms of control, it was much better than the last games and we created more chances.”
