Kevin De Bruyne has expressed his delight after making his return to the starting XI following a lengthy spell on the sidelines in the 3-1 victory over Burnley.

The Belgian had made cameo appearances from the bench over the last month, notably against Newcastle United where he came on to score one and assist another in a 3-2 victory at St James’ Park.

Pep Guardiola started him for the first time since his return against Burnley and the Belgian produced another assist, setting up Julian Alvarez for his second goal of the evening.

Rodrigo netted a third before the visitors pulled a late goal back, but it was too little too late as we claimed all three points at the Etihad Stadium.

“I’m happy, it’s been six months. I’ve been working really hard and training for a long time,” said De Bruyne.

“I’ve been coming off the bench three or four times, I can’t remember exactly. I’ve felt pretty good.

“I feel a little bit tired now but I think it’s normal. I still need a couple of more games and minutes under my belt but I’m happy with the way I’m performing.

“I didn’t expect to be out for five or six months. But it’s a good thing.”
