James McAtee says he is happy to have scored his first senior goal for City in our 2-1 win over Bayern Munich.

McAtee has returned from his season-long loan with Sheffield United and has joined Pep Guardiola’s squad for the Tour of Asia.

The 20-year-old started in his second game of pre-season, featuring in our first game against Yokohama F. Marinos.

In our second friendly at the Japan National Stadium on Wednesday morning, McAtee gave us the lead just after the 20 minute mark, scoring his first goal at senior level for the Club.

“Yeah it was good to get my first,” said McAtee after the match.

“I feel like I didn’t affect the game as much but I was happy to get a goal.

“It’s good to be back with the lads. I was away last year but I’ve been able to come on pre-season and get familiar with the lads again and familiar with how we play.”

TO FOLLOW CITY’S 2023 ASIA TOUR

The win over Bayern Munich was the final event in Japan for City, with the squad set to travel to Seoul, Korea on Thursday for the final leg of the Tour of Asia.

And, despite all the flying, McAtee has enjoyed the hospitality and culture of the places City have visited so far.

“It’s a beautiful City,” said McAtee when asked about the tour and his enjoyment of it so far.

“We got to go out the other day, me Rico [Lewis], Cole [Palmer] and Oscar [Bobb] as well, we got to explore the city and it’s a beautiful place.

“I’m not looking forward to another plane journey, I’ve had enough of them. But hopefully we have a good game against Atletico and try and put on a good performance for the fans.”
