WWE superstar John Cena was given advance notice of City’s upcoming pre-season tour of the USA this summer – and it’s fair to say he’s very happy about it!

In a spoof video segment to mark the news of our trip across the pond this July, Cena jumped on a call with star striker, Erling Haaland.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, the 16-time world heavyweight champion couldn’t disguise his delight as he posed as Haaland’s No.1 fan, complete with club kit, flowing blond wig as well as posters of the Premier League ace on his wall.

Coming up initially on Haaland’s phone screen with ‘camera off’, Cena tentatively enquires: ‘you can’t see me?’ which, as fans of Cena know, is his famous catchphrase.

Cena, now an actor who has appeared in movies such as Fast X, The Suicide Squad, Playing with Fire and this summer’s smash hit Barbie, then accidentally knocks his camera on, enabling Haaland to watch the two-time Royal Rumble winner as he enthusiastically and exuberantly celebrates both City’s and Haaland’s impending visit Stateside.

After telling Cena ‘you have to stop doing this’, Haaland returns to end the video by admiringly saying ‘his hair looked good!’

Cena’s sketch with Haaland was conceived and created to mark the announcement of City’s will return to the United States this summer on pre-season tour in preparation for the 2024/25 campaign.

The four-match tour will be delivered in collaboration with FC Series, a showcase for international clubs with matches across the US.

City will begin their pre-season campaign against Scottish Premier League champions Celtic on 23 July at Kenan Stadium, Chapel Hill.

New York’s iconic Yankee Stadium will play host to Manchester City’s men’s team as they travel to face AC Milan on 27 July 2024.

Over the same weekend, fans will also be able to see City’s sister club, New York City FC in action on 28 July 2024 as they take on Querétaro FC in the Leagues Cup.

Pep Guardiola’s side then head to Florida, to face his former club Barcelona at the Camping World Stadium, Orlando on 30 July 2024, before travelling to Columbus, Ohio for their final fixture.

Taking place at the historic Ohio Stadium, with a capacity of over 100,000, City will compete against fellow Premier League side Chelsea on Saturday 3 August 2024.

The official Man City app will provide comprehensive coverage of our USA tour, including live matches on CITY+ (subject to certain restrictions), press conferences, training sessions and our Matchday Live show for all our games. Fans across the world should download now to ensure they don’t miss a beat.
