Goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden ensured a solid advantage heading into the second leg at the Etihad.

KDB bagged the opener, producing a fine finish from a tight angle on 10 minutes as the visitors moved rapidly through the gears in the opening stages.

With City pushing hard for a second, Pep Guardiola’s side were rocked by a leveller against the run of play, Magnus Mattsson firing past Ederson, whose earlier error had set up the opportunity for the hosts.

Bernardo restored our advantage on the stroke of half-time, clipping home after the ball ricocheted to him from a tackle involving goalscorers KDB and Mattsson.

The second half was a tighter affair, with the visitors pushing for another goal and the hosts not sure whether to stick or twist.

City ensured a vital two-goal advantage going into the return tie, Phil Foden moving onto De Bruyne’s expert cutback as the clock ticked down in second half injury time.
