Classic highlights: United 1-2 City 2017

On this day in 2017 Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-1 in the Premier League to become the first team to win 14 successive English top-flight games in a single season.

David Silva hooked home from a corner to give Pep Guardiola’s side a deserved lead shortly before half-time, but United levelled in first half stoppage time when Marcus Rashford fired into the bottom corner after we failed to clear a cross.

Nicolas Otamendi restored our lead with an emphatic and acrobatic volley after Romelu Lukaku’s wild attempt at a clearance fell kindly to the Argentine.

It was a enough to seal the win, but City were indebted to Ederson, who made a superb double save to prevent Lukaku and then Juan Mata from rescuing a point for the home side.
