Classic highlights: City 4-1 Manchester United – 2003/04

Watch the best of the action as City recorded a memorable victory over Manchester United on this day in 2004.

In what was the first-ever Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium, Kevin Keegan’ side were backed by an impassioned sky blue crowd as we claimed bragging rights over Sir Alex Ferguson’s reigning champions at our new home.

Robbie Fowler handed us the perfect start on three minutes when the clinical striker poked past Tim Howard from close range.

City then doubled our lead when John Macken swivelled inside the box and sent a volley flying into the bottom corner, before Paul Scholes handed the visitors hope with a 20-yard strike.

However, any nerves were settled when Trevor Sinclair reacted well to Mikael Silvestre’s error to regain our two-goal lead by lifting the ball into the net after half-time.

And Shaun Wright-Phillios rubber-stamped a phenomenal day at the Etihad when he unleashed an unstoppable strike in off the cross bar – sparking that infamous robot celebration!
