Stones’ calm and composed presence at the heart of City’s rearguard was crucial behind our phenomenal defensive record across the campaign.
While known for his reading of the game and technical ability, the England man proved that he is far more than the archetypal ‘clean shorts’ defender with some crucial last ditch tackles and blocks.
He also chipped in with an important goal or two at the other end, including a Premier League brace against Crystal Palace and an opening strike against Manchester United in our 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final victory.
In total, City kept an astonishing 22 clean sheets when Stones was on the pitch, just shy of two-thirds of his 35 appearances in all competitions across the campaign.
Now a key part of Gareth Southgate’s England side, the defender will hope to cap off a truly memorable campaign by adding one final trophy to the cabinet.
