Pep Guardiola says he would love to see David Silva remain at Manchester City beyond the end of his current agreement.
Silva signed a new deal in November 2017 keeping him tied to the Club until the summer of 2020, at which point he will be 34.
But he is a player of enduring brilliance, with many suggesting his performances this season are his best and most consistent yet.
Guardiola admits he would love for the Spanish schemer to remain at the Club for as long as possible but says it comes down to the desire of the player.
“In this kind of case, it depends on the player,” he said. “For me, if he is fit and his performances are the same as this season, I’m more than delighted.
“It’s not easy to find around the world [a player like that].
“But I think they have to decide for themselves. At that age, your mind controls your legs and your desire and willing to stay.
“It depends on him.”
Meanwhile, Guardiola says his desire to win this season’s FA Cup is strong.
City are through to the fourth round having beaten Rotherham a fortnight ago and the City boss has promised to play a strong side again when Burnley visit this weekend.
“The FA Cup is a prestigious – not just in this country, everywhere– and I would like to go through,” he said.
“First year we were in the semi-finals against Arsenal and we could not reach the final, and last season was Wigan.
“So, Burnley at home. We are going to try and understand the game and play well. Try to play our game and go through.”
