Pep Guardiola says City can still improve after putting West Ham to the sword with a 5-0 victory in the Premier League curtain raiser.

Raheem Sterling’s hat-trick, along with strikes from Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero, ensured City set the tone for the season in the first game of our league title defence.

But while Guardiola was happy with the extension of our unbeaten run, he expects greater fluency to be achieved in the coming weeks.

“In terms of results, yes [I’m happy],” he said. [In terms of performance] No.

“In the first half we were sloppy in the precision and accuracy of our passes. But that’s normal. I knew it, we talked about it.

“The rhythm was not there but that’s normal for the first game. In the second half we were better, we were more calm, we played extra passes. After we went 3-0 up the game was over.

“But I cannot deny it, I’m delighted to win 5-0 away from home in the first game. We finished last season by winning 14 games in a row. It’s 15 now unbeaten so it’s good.”
