John Stones says City should have belief in their dream of winning the Champions League.
The Blues secured the perfect start to their 2017/18 campaign with a stunning 4-0 victory at Feyenoord, with Stones opening and closing the scoring.
The defender admitted that scoring early handed his side a major advantage and hopes Pep Guardiola’s men can build on their impressive display.
“It was brilliant,” he told CityTV. “Getting an early goal always helps. We controlled the game.
“To come away from home in the Champions League, score four goals and keep a clean sheet is a massive boost for us to take into the next game.
“I’ve never scored twice in a game, apart from probably when I was about seven!
“Kevin De Bruyne put it on a plate for me though – I couldn’t really miss! That’s one of Kev’s great strengths – his deliveries; both in the air and on the floor. We just have to keep getting on the end of them.
“I’m pleased with scoring and keeping a clean sheet – that’s pleasing for us defenders!
“Everyone was firing and working hard for each other. Credit to everyone – even the players on the bench, who came on and did their job.
“It shows their character – they’re willing to do everything when they get the gametime.
“It’s brilliant for me – for my learning, playing against top strikers every day in training. It’s helping me out, working with them day in, day out.
“To play with them is a pleasure. Some of the skills on show and the football we play is great to watch and to be a part of.
“It was a good one to win.
“We’ve got a dream and we have to feel confident that we can do it. Why not?
“We want to be in every competition, trying to win things.
“We’ll take things game by game and see where it takes us. It’s a great start; hopefully, we can take it into the next game.”
