Nicolas Otamendi says City's dramatic 2-1 Premier League win at Bournemouth was a reward for the Blues' never-say-die spirit.
An incident-packed match at the Vitality Stadium looked to be heading for a 1-1 stalemate before Raheem Sterling struck a 97th minute winner.
The England winger was subsequently sent-off for a second yellow card for his celebrations with the City fans.
But despite that, Argentine defender Otamendi said there were plenty of reasons for City to be optimistic after the first three games of the season and that Pep Guardiola's side will only improve when the season resumes in a fortnight after the international break.
"It is always difficult at the start of the season but we fought until the end and I think we deserved to win the game," said Otamendi.
"There are things for us to improve on but we are happy to have won and with the way that we played the game."
