Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes there are six teams challenging for the four Champions League spots in this year’s Premier League.

City currently sit in fourth, ahead of Wednesday’s trip to leaders Chelsea, but Guardiola insists that Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are also involved in the top four race.

“It is so important for all 6 teams to qualify for the Champions League,” he said. “To be in Europe is so important. In financial terms and in prestige.

“Chelsea deserve where they are. They won an amount of points and winning an amount of games in a row.

“It is another game, nine left, we have to take points as much as possible and after we will see.”

When asked about his plans for this summer’s transfer window, City’s boss sent out a message to his players.

“Every club wants to improve and must improve and the changes are necessary. We’re going to discuss that at the end of the season. The players will decide for themselves through their performance.”
