Our young boys in Blue began our Under-18 Premier League North title defence with a hard-fought win against the Merseysiders at the City Football Academy on Saturday.
Goals from Teddie Lamb and Archie Thornton were the difference for City with Finn Inglethorpe’s late penalty just a consolation for Liverpool as we began the 2026/27 campaign with three points.
Throughout the match, Coggin and his staff saw many positives the team will look to to build on and also areas City will seek to improve as the season goes on and the side continues to gel.
But above all, the win on home soil in his first game in charge since stepping into the role of Lead Coach in the summer, was a proud moment for the 37-year-old.
“It feels incredible,” said Coggin when asked what the result meant to him.
“I think the performance, first half especially, allowed us to be dominant throughout the game.
“A lot of players played more minutes than we would have liked but the first game of the season after a long pre-season sometimes brings that so to have the performance that we did is really pleasing.”
And on looking ahead to our first Manchester derby of the term, which is just one week away, Coggin added: “It’s huge for us. But we also need to bear in mind it’s a long season.
“That game doesn’t determine what’s going to happen for the rest of the year but equally the performance that we put in today, the football, the touches, the dominance is something we’re really pleased on and want to build on.”
