EDS boss hails Guardiola influence in wake of City's latest PL2 title success

EDS head coach Brian Barry-Murphy spoke of his gratitude at the priceless knowledge offered by City boss Pep Guardiola in helping aid the development of our talented Under-23s after we clinched a second successive PL2 title triumph.

A hard fought 3-1 victory at Leeds United on Friday in a game played in front of 21,000 fans at Elland Road, ensured City retained the title we won last April.

Barry-Murphy, who took up the role last summer in succession to Enzo Maresca, has overseen a superb campaign.

But as he reflected on the title triumph, he was keen to highlight the huge influence and input of City manager Guardiola, who has afforded numerous opportunities both in training as well as in first team games, to a host of our EDS players across the course of the season.

“It’s fantastic to get this reward of the league title alongside the development and growth that the players have made,” said the EDS head coach.

“But it’s easy to forget our players are getting this unique opportunity to be trained by one of the best managers that has ever managed.

“And the amount of access they have to him, and his training sessions is beyond belief.

“It’s very important not to take that for granted. We push the players to appreciate what they are experiencing. I don’t think it’s normal - there’s not many clubs that I’ve seen that involved so many of our young players (at first team level).

“Because of the nature of our so squad so many of our young players get to be on the bench and involved in so many competitions."
