Wilkinson hails 'real team performance' as City march on in FA Youth Cup

Head coach Ben Wilkinson hailed ‘a real team performance’ as City swept into the FA Youth Cup quarter finals with a dominant 5-0 fifth round win over Fleetwood Town at the Academy Stadium.

Justin Oboavwoduo led the way with a fine hat trick with Matty Whittingham and Will Dickson also on target.

But for Wilkinson, he felt all of his players delivered on what was a thoroughly professional and accomplished display with keeper George Murray Jones also saving a first half penalty when the score was only 1-0.

“In this competition it’s all about getting through to the next round but I thought we played well,” Wilkinson asserted.

“It was a game we were expected to win but they can always be tricky, soI thought overall we were pretty good tonight.

"Justin is a goal scorer and he’ll be delighted to get his three goals, but I thought it was a real team performance.

“I thought everyone did their job and what we asked them to do. They stuck to the messages, so it was a pleasing night from a team perspective.”
