The Sven Year

A documentary telling the story of Sven-Goran Eriksson’s time in charge of Manchester City is now available to watch on CITY+.

The Sven Year charts the highs and lows of Eriksson’s solitary season as City manager and features interviews with the man himself, fans and former players including Elano and Nedum Onuoha.

The Swede, who celebrates his 74th birthday today, was appointed in the summer of 2007 and his arrival saw an influx of continental talent as City made a flying start to the campaign before our form trailed off significantly after Christmas.

It culminated in an 8-1 loss to Middlesbrough on the final day, after which Eriksson was sacked, but that season is remembered fondly by supporters for the exiting brand of football instilled by former England manager.

The Sven Year recounts key moments in that period, including our first league double over Manchester United since 1970, the emergence of the precocious Michael Johnson and that heavy defeat at the Riverside Stadium.

CITY+ subscribers can enjoy it all in the video above.
