Classic match replay: City 3-1 United 2006

Relive the full 90 minutes of a classic Manchester derby victory that took place 17 years ago today…

Quickfire goals from Trevor Sinclair and Darius Vassell before the break put City in the driving seat before Robbie Fowler’s stoppage time strike wrapped up a deserved 3-1 triumph.

Sinclair gave Stuart Pearce’s men the lead just after the 30-minute mark with a volley on the turn and Vassell doubled our advantage just seven minutes later after combining with Andrew Cole from a City goal kick.

Things went from bad to worse for United when Cristiano Ronaldo was given a straight red for a reckless lunge on Cole midway through the second half, but Ruud Van Nistelrooy halved the deficit ten minutes later.

However, our two-goal advantage was restored in stoppage time when Fowler rifled a first-time effort into the far corner of Edwin van der Sar’s net after being teed up by Vassell.
