City had already qualified for the knockout stages after winning our opening four games of Group G, including away in Germany.
But there was still top spot riding on the outcome of the match with a seeded place and home tie going to the group winners.
A win or a draw at the Etihad Stadium would be good enough to secure first place in the group ahead of our final match away to Red Star Belgrade in Serbia.
There was also a desire to maintain our 100% record in the competition on the back of winning the trophy last season.
How would this clash play out?
