City came from two goals down to claim a famous comeback win away to the defending European champions.
Goals from David Silva, Aleksandar Kolarov and James Milner cancelled out early Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze strikes to end Bayern Munich's record run of 10 consecutive Champions League wins.
Things seemed to be going according to plan for the hosts when Muller coolly slotted home Dante's defence-splitting pass inside five minutes, before Gotze doubled the advantage soon after with a close-range finish from a corner.
But Manuel Pellegrini's men mounted a defiant response with Silva halving the deficit before the half hour from Milner's cutback.
And the comeback was complete thanks to an incredible three-minute flurry in the second half.
Kolarov drew City level from the penalty spot on the hour after Milner was felled by Dante inside the area.
And after having a hand in both our goals up to that point, Milner capped off a memorable night with a clinical finish after Jerome Boateng had sliced a clearance into his path.
