From Melbourne to Manchester: How Man City Undergraduate Summer Shaped Jade’s Sports Business Career
Meet Jade Piesik, a 24-year-old from Melbourne, Australia. Jade recently finished a Diploma in Business & Sport Management at the Melbourne City Institute of Sport & Business, and was part of the Man City Undergraduate Summer class of 2025.
Why did you choose to study with us at Man City Undergraduate Summer?
I wanted to be able to experience studying abroad, particularly in Manchester where football has such a rich culture. It was interesting to be able to see football in a different light, and compare that to my personal experiences in Australia. I only discovered my love of football in recent years, and I wanted to dive into that world head on.
What was the most valuable lesson you learned during your course?
Even though I was still learning at the time, it is never too early to be thinking about your career and how you can build the foundations through networking and personal research in order to further prepare yourself. This course really taught me that I can be more proactive in working towards a career I love and am proud of.
What was your student experience like?
I was lucky enough to have two people from my course back home take part in the Summer Program as well, which helped me to settle in originally. I liked that we had spare time to ourselves, and I was able to take some day trips to London and Edinburgh. The added activities of the Etihad tour and the National Football Museum contributed to the experience, teaching me more about the rich culture and history of Football. I was able to connect with different people around the world, and make friends that I am still in contact with today.
Did Man City Undergraduate Summer influence any decisions you made about your education?
It really helped to confirm that the sports business industry is where I want to take my career. This experience made me realise that upon going back home, I wanted to put absolute everything into completing my Diploma and working towards coming out of it with graduate employment.
Which industry would you like to work in once you have graduated?
In December I graduated from my Diploma and applied for one of the graduate employment roles with Melbourne City Football Club. I was successful in my application and I am now working as part of the Melbourne City Football Club as the Assistant Program Manager of the Diploma of Business & Sport Management. I am working towards growing the Melbourne City Institute of Sport & Business and being the first point of contact for the 2026 student cohort.
What advice would you give to a student that is attending Man City Undergraduate Summer for the first time?
I would tell a new student to dive in headfirst. It truly is a once in a lifetime experience that deserves to have your full attention. You can get the most out of it if you dedicate yourself towards learning and embracing every moment of the program.
