Cole Palmer scored one goal and assisted two more as England Under-21s booked their place in the UEFA U21 European Championships final.

Lee Carsley’s side beat Israel 3-0 to maintain their impressive record at the tournament of winning all five games to date while conceding no goals.

Three City youngsters started the game with James Trafford, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Palmer all named in the XI while Tommy Doyle was on the bench.

England beat their Israeli counterparts 2-0 in the group stages and comfortably repeated the victory in the semi-final to set up a final against Spain on Saturday.

England should have gone ahead on 13 minutes after Anthony Gordon was brought down in the box, but Morgan Gibbs-White missed the target from the resulting penalty.

Despite dominating much of the opening period, England had nothing to show for their efforts as Israel defended in numbers - at least until the 43rd minute when Palmer’s superb cross found the head of Gibbs-White who nodded home to make it 1-0.

And on 64 minutes, Palmer doubled England’s lead as he stretched to reach Emile Smith-Rowe’s low cross to the far post to prod the ball into the net.

The assistant referee’s flag initially ruled the goal offside, but that decision was reversed after a lengthy VAR check showed Smith-Rowe to be marginally onside from Gibbs-White’s pass.

Tommy Doyle finally got to see some action as he came on with 88 minutes played and a couple of minutes later, England were 3-0 up as Palmer‘s clever cut-back found Cameron Archer who made no mistake with a smart finish.

Trafford and Harwood-Bellis enjoyed a relatively quiet evening with Israel managing only one shot on target all evening.

England will now look to go on and win the competition for the first time in 39 years in Saturday’s final in Batumi, Georgia.
