As the World Cup enters day four, all eyes are on Russia – but there’s still some Manchester City news doing the rounds on this morning’s back pages.

Let’s start with some transfer news. Napoli midfielder Jorginho, strongly linked with a move to City this summer, has spoken to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport and he believes talks are ongoing.

The midfielder is reported as saying:“I spoke with City bosses on Thursday and they are now speaking with [Napoli sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli.

“We must reach an agreement. I showed willing and went to meet the English executives.

“In such cases, if one person takes a step back, the other must take a step forward. But there are more than concrete possibilities that it will soon be sorted.”

That’s a rumour we’ll follow closely over the coming days…

Meanwhile, Simon Bajkowski, writing in the Manchester Evening News, says City’s outstanding transfer window of last summer should mean fans show patience this time around.

He writes: “But if City’s 2017 window is remembered in full, the main thrust of their (hugely successful) deals came in late July.

“Dani Alves’s snub sparked the Blues into action, and over 11 days they completed the signings of Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy to transform their full-back department.

“That was just 19 days before their first game of the season but did not stop two of the three lining up at Brighton.

“So while negotiations for Jorginho and Riyad Mahrez feel to have dragged, and Guardiola did want the deals wrapped up as soon as possible, the success of last summer earns City more patience than a small number are affording them.”

That’s all for this morning’s media roundup. Stay tuned to mancity.com over the coming days.
