Navas sets sights on Wembley again

Jesus Navas runs through the Swansea Defence

Jesus Navas runs through the Swansea Defence

Jesus Navas is hoping to play a part in City’s FA Cup Fourth Round tie on Saturday so he can help the Blues towards yet another Wembley appearance.

The Spanish winger has fond memories of City’s two recent Capital One Cup triumphs and knows that victory at Selhurst Park will put the Blues just a couple of wins away from Wembley.

“Like all clubs in the Premier League, Selhurst Park is a great stadium to play at,” said Navas.

“They always have a great atmosphere, our fans will be there in their numbers as usual and I’m really looking forward to going there this weekend. Hopefully we can prepare well and beat them.”

Navas has featured less in the first team than he did last season, but says he accepts the squad rotation as part and parcel of being at a top club.

“It’s difficult sometimes but you just have to try and work hard and wait for your opportunity – when the chance does come along it’s then up to you to grab it with two hands and make sure you make the most of it.

“The most important thing is the team and our aim is to win this game and that’s what we’ll be trying to do on Saturday.

“When you are a player you want to win as many titles as possible so the cup competitions are very important to us as a team and we know that if we beat Palace, we are only two more rounds from playing at Wembley so that will be in our minds when we walk out on Saturday.

“My two League Cup winner’s shirts are both safe at home as mementos of two great days and I’d love to add a third to that collection.”

And though he has scored in cup competitions, Navas says his three-year wait for a Premier League goal is not something he dwells on, adding: “It’s not something I think about too much – I just concentrate on working hard and try to create as many assists for the team as I can.”
