Considering there are no less than 16 ex-Blues, representing 11 different nations, chances are your hunch is correct.
Of course, that won’t be the case for higher profile players like Daniel Sturridge, Shay Given, James Milner and suchlike, but there are a large number of former Academy graduates playing for their nation at the championships in France.
So, without further ado, here is the first eight of the 16, complete with their City record and caps won…
Neil Taylor (Wales)
Another junior who never made it past junior level, the Swansea City left-back was at City from 1998 to 2005 and was released aged 16. He initially joined Wrexham before moving to the Swans where he has been for the past six years. He has 27 Welsh caps.
Shay Given (Ireland)
Popular Republic of Ireland Shay Given is still going strong. Now aged 40, he clocked up 69 appearances for the Blues between 2009 and 2011 and has won an astonishing 133 caps for the Irish.
Costel Pantilimon (Romania)
Costel Pantilimon played for City between 2011 and 2014 as back-up to Joe Hart. He made 29 starts in total and featured in the 2014 Capital One Cup final triumph over Sunderland. Costel has won 22 caps for Romania to date.
Wayne Hennessey (Wales)
Former City Academy youngster Wayne Hennessey was released by the Club as a 16 year-old, joining Wolves where he spent 11 years. He has won 57 caps for his country so far a well as making 239 career appearances at club level.
John Guidetti (Sweden)
Striker John Guidetti waited several years for his chance at City and was rewarded with just one appearance. Injury problems hampered his progress but he did enjoy successful loan spells with Feyenoord and is now progressing well with Celta Vigo. His strike partner for the national team is the one and only Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Guidetti has won 10 caps to date.
Andreas Isaksson (Sweden)
Something of a Swedish legend with 131 caps to his name, Andreas Isaksson spent two years with the Blues but never established himself with the Blues. He made just 20 appearances between 2004 and 2006 before moving to PSV.
Vladimir Weiss (Slovakia)
Part of the 2008 FA Youth Cup-winning team, Vladimir Weiss was tipped for big things at City. The Academy graduate played four times for the Blues, scoring against Arsenal in the League Cup, but eventually left to make his career elsewhere. He has had six clubs since and now plays his football in Qatar. He has already won more than 50 caps and scored against Russia on Wednesday.
Kieran Westwood (Republic of Ireland)
Kieran Westwood came close to breaking in the City team between 2002 and 2004, but never got his chance with David James and Nicky Weaver ahead of him in the pecking order. He eventually moved on and has had a solid career with Carlisle, Coventry City, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday. He has won 18 caps to date.
