Gareth Taylor says reaching 100 Barclays Women’s Super League in charge of Manchester City is a satisfying milestone to achieve.

And the Blues boss was delighted to mark the occasion with victory at Villa Park – the arena for his first league assignment as head coach in September 2020.

Although Chasity Grant broke the deadlock for Aston Villa, two strikes from Vivianne Miedema turned the fixture on its head before half-time.

The hosts then equalised soon after the interval, but further goals from Mary Fowler and Jess Park helped win a six-goal thriller, 4-2.

It represented the 73rd WSL win for City under Taylor’s tutelage with the boss possessing a win percentage of 73% - the highest average of any manager to reach 100 matches in the competition’s history.

And he praised his side’s character to respond from behind to collect three points in what was our third match in six days.

“This was also my first game in the WSL – at this stadium [Villa Park], he explained.

“It’s really nice and I’m pleased to get the win. I think it was a disjointed performance from us today, but we got the job done.

“We were a little flat at times today which can happen when you’ve played three games in six days. There’s been a lot energy expelled by these players.

“We rotated a little bit, got some bodies back on the bench today which is good and we’ve seen some players returning which is great.

“The spirit from the girls was great today.”
